Airforce Formation Aerobatic LIMA LANGKAWI 2007

Length: 5:32
Description: Langkawi - Virtual Malaysia witnessed the spectacular display of Indian Air Force aerobatics team of a total of 13 pilots, called Suryakiran at Langkawi airport during LIMA '07. Taking off in a vic of threes, the nine Kiran Mk-IIs converge to close the formation, manoeuvering between speeds of 150 and 650 Kmph with their wing tips a mere 5 metres apart. The dynamic profiles undertaken constantly changes in formation subjecting the pilots to alternating g-force of between +6 to -1.5, a force which measures the net effect of the acceleration that an object actually experiences and the acceleration that gravity is trying to impart to it. Every coordinated effort is choreographed in detail, flown with precision with hours of practice. Pilots are selected twice a year for a three-year tour of duty, from the fighter branch of the IAF. The team performs to build confidence of their national brethren in the capabilities of the Air Warriors who paint the skies with trails of smoke in their national flag's colours & enthrall the ground audience while motivating youths to join India's Air Force. During the first performance on the opening day of LIMA '07, one of the Suryakiran's encountered a technical difficulty & had to land, leaving the remaining eight to fly the formations. However, he came back in full force on the following day after the team's visit to the Maritime division of the exhibition at Awana Porto Malai, showcasing India's submarine, Sindhurakshak.
