Description: Photo's of Avianca Flight 52 2 days after the crash 1-25-1990. 158 people were aboard and 85 survived (They ran out of fuel, so there was no fire, a lot of survivors). I live very close to where the plane crashed. I will never forget the sound as the plane coasted by and then crashed. I didn't go to see it but friends of mine did. These photo's were given to me and taken by Tom Baade. Though I would share them.

A layer of fog blankets New York City causing flight delays up to three hours long. As air traffic controllers at JFK manage numerous planes in the face of a coming storm, Avianca Flight 052 with 158 crew and passengers has been circling the sky for over 77 minutes running down to the last few dregs of fuel. Despite urgent messages from the crew, the air traffic control tower has not given the plane permission to land. At last, clearance is given, but it's too late. The plane crashes into a Long Island hillside killing 73 people. What the ensuing investigation uncovers leaves many wondering if the crash could have even been avoided.
