Description: On February 15, 2008, I set out from Chicago to Seattle aboard Amtrak's Empire Builder Train. This day's departure had an unusual consist as it was also carrying four Bombardier Bi-Level commuter cars. The cars, owned by Sound Transit, were being returned to Seattle from Washington, D.C., where they were leased by Virginia Railway Express.
Part One takes us out of Chicago, into Milwaukee and then on to North Dakota. The night time shot after Milwaukee is the eastbound Empire Builder running six hours late. You can view the entire length of the outside of the train as it is serviced in Minot, North Dakota.
