Emu, wedge-tailed eagle and the Leigh Creek coal train

Length: 6:27
Description: A pair of emu forage on the western edge of the Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia. The pub at Parachilna sits beside the railway from Port Augusta to Leigh Creek. A train of coal empties, about two and a half kilometres long, passes over a bridge south of the town of Leigh Creek, heading for the coalfield. The film is left uncut for over three minutes to give the impression of how long the train really is. On standard gauge (4'8 ½"/ 1435mm) track, it is hauled by three 82 class locos that originated in NSW. A wedge-tailed eagle picks at marsupial road kill as a kangaroo hops away to avoid a similar fate.
