Vintage Japanese jitte sword breaker. These unique tools were previously used in Japan by the Shogun's police in quelling disputes and in particular to break swords (katana) by securing and then breaking the blade. In fact, in the hands of a skilled user the jitte could be used to both break a sword and maim the swordsman. This particular jitte is made of solid iron and is in fine condition and dates from the mid to late Japanese Showa period (1926-1989).
