24th August, 3am, the landmark towers next to the M1 are blown up. Lots of locals turned out despite the hour.

The cooling towers were demolished at 3am Sunday 24 August 2008. Next to Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield. John J Taff

there was quite a long debate about weather or not to destroy these towers, people were calling it "archaeological vandalism", eventually those people lost the argument and the towers were destroyed. please rate and comment =P
