The state of Amsterdam's most famous square is deplorable. The Museumplein was redecorated in 1999 by architect Sven-Ingvar Andersson - for millions - but local authorities simply forgot to budget enough maintainence costs. The yearly 437,000 euro spend now is obviously not enough: the expensive street furniture is rotting away.
