This video is almost like being on board the Trans Siberian Railway! This is a detailed overview of our train ride from Moscow to Irkutsk in May 2006. Ekaterinburg seemed to be the classic post-soviet city that has an ominous dark and dirty feel. I tried to capture the feeling of desolation a bit with this video.

Having left Mongolia I travel on to Irkutsk - and find myself overcome with emotion!

On the Train-Siberian Railway, you must drink Russian vodka.

Explorer Benedict Allen travelled across the Chukchi peninsula, the northeasternmost part of Siberia. In the town of Enmelen, one of the remotest towns on the planet, the local Siberian Eskimos put on a show to welcome him. The show included local children dancing to Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush.

Lake Baikal is the deepest and oldest and largest freshwater lake in the world holding over 1/5th of the world's freshwater! We took a dip whilst staying in the village of Bolshoe Goloustnoye (Google Earth: 52° 0'51.95"N & 105°16'21.10"E) and it is very cold indeed even in the height of Summer!
