In October 2006 four intrepid aussie steam enthusiasts travelled half round the globe to join up with an English group going to Eritrea in Eastern Africa to sample the delights of the restored line between Asmara (the capital) and Massawa a (very hot and humid) port on the Red Sea. 12 January 2005: we ride between Civic and Newcastle in one of the now-scrapped Hunter Valley railcars from Telarah: 625/725. The line the NSW state government wanted to close. Local agitation and support for the railway have so far kept it open. Some railways are being built in the state capital, but in the regions.... more

January 11 2005: night scenes at Newcastle NSW: the station, the Stockton ferry, a ship leaving the port. Morning 12 January: the harbour, street, station. An Endeavour railcar set leaves for Telarah (Maitland) on the line from the station that senior members of the state government wanted to close.

A trip out on the North Norfolk Railway on the 11th of July 2007. Still with camera sound issues, sorry about that.
