This spatter event was shot breaking through the crust of the West Gap Pit lava lake in the Pu'u O'o vent on the east flank of the Kilauea Volcano.

This large flow from the source at the East Rift Zone of Kilauea moved at a fast pace for two miles before stalling one half mile above the Royal Gardens Subdivision. A new steam vent rich in sulfur was created in June 2007 when the lava plumbing in Kilauea had a major disruption.
