The cherry blossoms of Ohara bloom to celebrate the coming of spring to the snow buried Minamiuonuma region. The rows of cherry blossom trees are enjoyed not only by the locals, but also by visitors from neighbouring towns and cities.

Pretty pink flowers of Katakuri (Adder's tongue lily) tell us the arrival of spring in the Minamiuonuma region. Many suffered in the Chuetsu area from the Niigata Chuetsu Earthquake disaster of October, 2004. The Snow Festival is the biggest winter event full of local characteristics. A festival of Ise Shrine and Snow Sculpture Competition joined to give birth to this event.
