In 2006 Nozomi and I visited Japan for a week before going on to the Uchinanchu World Festival in Okinawa Japan. This is a slide show of our trip to see the second largest Buddha statue in Japan. It was located in Kamakura Japan.

Historically, parents came to Hasedera to set up these statues in hopes the deity would protect and watch over their children. Today, though, the Jizo statues represent the souls of miscarried, stillborn or aborted children. Some of the statues are dressed in bibs, hand-knitted caps and sweaters. More than 50,000.... more

Took off from Tokyo Haneda Airport for Osaka. It's a hazy flight but enjoyable. You'll see on Part 1 climbing over Tokyo Bay, Yokohama, Yokosuka and on Part 2 tracing the Shonan Coast from Kamakura, Enoshima, Chigasaki, Odawara and Hakone to Mt. Fuji peek out between the clouds. For me it's quite nostalgic for my past.... more
