There can be no mistaking this place for a corporate chain. Some of the people in here were looking at me pretty strange but the cute girl behing the bar thanked me for stopping in when I left. The Cactus Cafe is an excellent music venue and beerjoint located in the Union Building on the University of Texas Campus.

When you get to the intersection of South Lamar and Barton Springs Road, as you surely will if you come to Austin for the Austin City Limits Festival sometime, you will first see an old gas station made into a bar. The Hills was here long before I was and it fell on hard times for a while but when Bob Cole bought it and dumped a ton of his money into it, it came back to life. It's a cool beerjoint, resaturant and music venue. They have a huge concert viewing area out back, the restrooms are clean, and the employees seem to care. http://www.wisegeorge.blogspot.com

If you ever come to Austin Texas you must visit the Broken Spoke. It's a local law with a hefty fine if you fail to follow instructions. I love this place. I love the music that flows through here too, but mostly I just love this place. http://www.wisegeorge.blogspot.com
